Copenhagen Unique Infrastructure
I have observed infrastructure that is quite unique compared to what I am familiar with in the States.
Sidewalks: Sidewalks are constructed with a unique pattern. We were told the pattern helps people that are visually impaired in order to identify where the sidewalk continues. The sidewalk is placed in a temporary manner which makes it easier for the panels to be removed if utilities need to make improvements. The panels tend to settle and do cause tripping hazards.
Bike Signals/Pedestrian Signals: Some of the pedestrian signals have a countdown timer during the red interval to let you know how much time you have left to wait.
Bike signals go from red to yellow to green so that you can start pushing off while on your bike in preparation for when the signal turns green. In the States, we have a lot of vehicles that run red lights so this technique may not work as well. The cars also tend to drive much safer here due to the law where the fault is the driver's if a cyclist or pedestrian is struck.
We were told the bike fix stations are often vandalized so those are no longer installed.
Signs/Striping: I have found the signs and striping for the cyclists to be
clear, even through construction zones.
Streetlights: Wires hold up and provide power to the streetlights in the City.
Solar Panels: Solar panels can be found on building roofs and in between buildings.
Dog Leash Hooks: Dog leash hooks can be found on buildings.
clear, even through construction zones.
Traffic Calming: In some locations where traffic calming is used, most of the brick will be elevated and bumpy. The road may however have a strip of bricks that are smoother for the bikes to use.
Heated Seats: You can even find heated seats at restaurants or blankets.
